The Northland College Farm

Northland College is still benefitting from the decision to clear and manage a full operational farm adjacent to the College itself. An article in Te Tai Tokerau from 1951 describes how ‘When the College began in 1947, much of this area was covered in gorse standing six geet high. Mechanical and manual labour gradually cleared 66 acres, and by September 1948 a new modern cowshed and piggeries had been built…”

Nowadays the farm provides some support for school projects, but more importantly gives Agriculture students the ability to gain and develop the skills required to work a modern farm.

Students are able to pathway from here directly to Telford, a part of the Southern Instutite of Technology to gain tertiary qualifications in this sector.
